She is so knowledgeable about the wigs and products and her advice and help with such an emotional and personal moment in your life, is second to none. For reasons unknown, my 84-year-old mother developed bald patches along with her already thinning hair and this was distressing her. She asked me to find out about getting a wig, but I didn’t know where to start – then I found Lisa and her Hair Room. From the very first contact and subsequent visit Lisa was understanding of mum’s dilemma. Mum is timid (due to hearing loss) but Lisa is warm and friendly and her hospitality soon put mum at ease. There was never any pressure from Lisa, who gave us plenty of time to pick styles and colours – the choice is immense – and nothing was too much trouble. You hear the word chemotherapy and all you hear is ‘I am going to lose my hair’. Lisa helped me negotiate the process in my way. 

She was supportive, empathetic and patient, even when I insisted on ordering numerous inappropriate ‘statements’ wigs (perhaps purple isn’t my colour!). I ended up feeling empowered by the process and with a wig which helped me feel like me.

I was recommended to Lisa by the HCCN team for a consultation as I knew I would lose my hair during my treatment. Side effects of cancer treatment can be really difficult and none more so than the distress of gradually losing your hair.  Lisa fitted me in straightaway and we spent a long time looking through the huge choice that fitted my wish list.  Within 48 hours I was back in front of the salon mirror trying on the various options. Nothing was too much trouble. Lisa made really helpful suggestions; we tried the two favourites several times to make absolutely certain that the colour, fit and. style was what I wanted.  She then trimmed and styled the wig specifically to my face and I felt absolutely fantastic when I left her salon. The range of styles, colours and prices is incredible; something to suit everyone even on a restricted budget. I have absolutely no hesitation to recommend Lisa to anyone who is about to lose their hair.

The wigs arrived super quick and she even fitted me in last minute to fit my wigs so I looked nice to go away that weekend. I would highly recommend Hair Room St. Ives if you or anyone you know (god forbid) would like a wig following hair loss after chemotherapy. Lisa was amazing with my mum from the onset. She was kind, understanding but most of all, took the time my mum needed to come to terms with things. She helped her make decisions in private, which you wouldn’t necessarily get from a high street salon. Also, the personal touch and friendly approach made the whole process so much more bearable. Coming to terms with losing your hair is unimaginable and one of the hardest things to overcome when having chemotherapy.
